Jenn ~ I've never tried Pilates, but I've heard it's a great workout. I do need lots of core strengthening so maybe I should give it a go!

Thanks for visiting, Liz! I know what you mean about finding time for fitness. Barn chores are great for building strength, but they sure don't do much for your cardiovascular system! A few more hours in the day would work well for me!

I love Yoga, not only for strength and flexibility for riding, but it is also fabulous at building balance, another one of those all important things we must possess to be effective riders! I rotate Yoga with Pilates so I can keep those back muscles flexible and those core muscles strong (well strong-ER.)

I've just been chastising myself for not staying fit enough by cross training. Yoga always has helped me when I've been disciplined enough to actually do it! I wish it were possible to stay fit just from riding, mucking and tossing hay bales. That's all I have time for right now. Sigh.

Thanks, GHM! You're right, yoga can be done by almost anyone and that's one of the reasons I love it so much. It's so easy to create an individualized program and increase the difficulty as you improve.

Great post Michelle! Yoga is one of the best exercises for anyone at any age. We could all use better flexibility. Thanks.

You should get back into it, Jenn! And then report back the changes you are finding in your body and how it has affected your other workouts.

I hope you do start up, Juliette! I'm such a fan of yoga, now I need to practice what I preach and get back on my own regular routine of doing it!

I imagine you probably are sore these days, Paint Girl! Maybe you should go for the hot tub, instead!! I don't know much about practicing yoga if you have a bulging disk - my back trouble is mostly arthritis due to all of my falls and I don't have any serious "injuries" like you do. I'd be interested to hear if it helps, if you get the all clear to practice.
