Yes, Africa is an amazing place, Jenn. It’s such a world apart from where we are in the US. It is expensive though, and a LONG plane ride. But well worth it. Maybe someday you can share that experience with her!

Oh wow, what an amazing experience!

My youngest (8) is an animal freak and her ideal vacation trip would be to Africa. She asks every year when we are going to go to Africa. I’ve researched a few of the trekking trips and right now, that particular trip is a bit out of our budget. One day, hopefully, she’ll be able to have that experience and those memories.

Billie, I’m glad to have you whenever you can make it over here! I have similar interests as your daughter and would be happy to share my experiences with her if she’d like. I’ve done a lot of conservation work, both with African species and with those native to Florida (manatees and bottlenose dolphins). As wonderful as the work is, it’s a rough life and definitely NOT compatible with horses for a number of reasons. Anyway, if she’d like to chat, give her my email address. Hi, Michelle –

I’m regretting that I don’t get over here more often. What a great bunch of posts – I chose this one to comment on b/c I’m so intrigued with your African experience and research. My daughter (wants to go to vet school but seems more interested in wild animals and extinction and maintaining natural habitats than doing actual vet practice) would be fascinated.

Thanks GHM, the trip was amazing. I wish everyone could have an experience like that in their lives. I think it would make people a lot more open minded and accepting.
