Some Fun on a Monday
On Saturday night, I attended Ocala Florida’s Light up Night. I had a great time and came away from it feeling excited about the upcoming holiday season. I love this time of year – the holiday music and festive lights, the traditional scents and foods. Yes, I know – I definitely have rose colored glasses. I tend to overlook the angry mobs at shopping malls, and the exponential growth of the debt ratio. What can I say? I’m a sucker for the season!
I came across this cute story this morning and it brought a smile to my face. Nothing like a little Christmas contest to start off this holiday week! Plus, it features some of my new favorite creatures – donkeys! I have developed quite a crush on George and Alan from the 7MSN Ranch and I start off nearly every day with a dose of those handsome boys. (Go on, check them out. And then just tell me you don’t love them too. I dare you! But be warned – you will likely become a George n’ Alan junkie just like the rest of us!)
Anyway, back to the Christmas contest. The Donkey Sanctuary in Devon, England has come into possession of quite a unique apple split perfectly down the middle, half red and half green. They have decided to use this Christmas apple to raise awareness and raise funds for their donkeys’ care. For a small donation (approximately $3.32 USD), you can vote on which of the “Twelve Donkeys of Christmas” gets to partake in the rare apple. The donkey with the most votes by December 4, 2009 wins. There’s not much time to cast your vote, so head over to the Donkey Sanctuary’s site to see photos of the donkeys and learn more about the sanctuary. Oh, and my vote goes to Wilson, shown below.

I am going to have to check it out. Can they all be as cute as Wilson?

Hazem, you’re right – 7MSN Ranch is home to a lot of cute animals, not just the donkeys! Linda has a great knack for capturing her animals’ personalities and the photos and captions she shares are priceless. I feel like I know them all and can’t wait to see what they’re up to next!
Arlene, you’d be surprised! There are quite a few cute donkeys on that site. I think one day when I have my land, I’ll be paying a visit to the nearest donkey/burro rescue facility!

Oh…Wilson looks like he wants that apple SO BAD! I’ve never, ever seen an apple such as that…do you think it’s real…or a gimmick?

I’ve been to the 7MSN and enjoyed all of Linda’s special creatures. Smooch was my favorite, followed by Winona. But the burrito brothers steal the show, for sure.
I think my vote’s with Wilson, too. Sure wish I could have donkeys here. I love ‘em!
Weird apple, though.

I checked out the site and can’t decide who’s the cutest. Wilson is adorable but so is Twinkle and Clementine. I’d just have to give them all an apple and a hug.

Jenn, I don’t know if that apple is real or not, but it’s pretty cool either way. The timing is interesting, though, isn’t it?
Lisa, I am SO jealous!!! I would LOVE to have the opportunity to meet Linda’s gang. Twilight? Hmph. I’ve got my own little obsession going on, waiting for my daily dose of the gang. If Linda were smart, she’d capitalize on that and offer paid tours! Lol!
Arlene, I liked Clementine too! I had a hard time choosing between her, Tinsel, and Wilson.

OMG!!! How cute are they! I can’t wait until you have donkeys!
michelle - November 24, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Jenn, I’m thinking I might have to live vicariously through you, now that you’re a land owner before me! So…..when are “we” adopting some burros?
Kim - November 24, 2009 at 6:08 pm
That is a REAL apple?
michelle - November 24, 2009 at 7:50 pm
So the story goes, Kim. It looks kind of suspicious to me, but hey, it’s for a great cause!

Michelle – great post! I love Donkeys too. I want one to go with the zebra and horses. Dreaming…
I did visit 7MSN Ranch – too cute. I will probably be a regular.
No offense but I think that apples looks weird. As you say, very holiday timed, but a little man-made looking. I think I will try to do that. I bet Pie won’t eat it if I do. When he first came, he wouldn’t eat golden delicious apples. Only red ones!
Thanks for stopping back over – I was worried you were sick with the flu like everyone else. Glad you were just traveling and getting into the holiday spirit.
Hope you got your ride in this afternoon!

oops…I meant “apple” not apples…I make so many errors on comments! Ugh!
michelle - November 25, 2009 at 8:22 am
Hi Juliette! So sorry I’ve been away. I’ve had a few….distractions recently! =) Anyway, that apple would probably be perfect for your boys – Pie could eat the red half and leave the green half for Sovey! I’m glad you liked 7MSN. Linda has an incredible knack for capturing the personalities of her gang. Check back after you’ve visited a few times and let me know who YOU develop a crush on! It’s so hard, I waver depending on the cute antics of the day. Deets, Smooch, and the burrito brothers are all vying for my heart. She actually put out a calendar for George and Alan to raise money for the Burro Rescue group – of course I had to purchase two!
