Something Fishy
A couple of weeks ago, Emma and I enjoyed a long trail ride on a lazy Sunday. I know I’ve done a few virtual trail rides now, but this ride was one for the books. We looped through the woods and rode down to the lake to let the girls (well, Abby, anyway) enjoy the water a bit. Much to our surprise, as we approached the lake we noticed many vultures lurking around the water’s edge. What, we wondered, could be going on?

Well, we never did discover “what was going on” but there were hundreds of dead fish littering the beach. I guess Tiny had the right idea wanting to stay as far as possible away from this water body! For a brief moment, I forgot we were at the sandy shore of a lake in central Florida. It looked like some rocky Atlantic beach from somewhere up north. Well, at least until the smell brought me back to the present day and place…..

After we’d had our fill of eau de deadfish, we began meandering back home via the country road. We were chatting amiably and our lazy girls were focused on putting one foot in front of the other and aiming straight toward home when we had another surprise. This handsome fellow beckoned us over to say hi!

He and a couple of his buddies live just down the street from the barn and I’m sure we’ve passed him many, many times on our rides. Never before has he initiated contact with us. We wandered over to let the girls say hi and things got even more weird!

This little guy had no fear of us or the horses! His buddies weren’t so sure and kept their distance, but this brave soul came straight over to visit. Apparently he thought Tiny was pretty cute, and it didn’t take long for him to make his move!

Tiny received her very first bovine sMOOch! Actually this was one of many, as the boy took quite a shine to my girl. Not to be outdone, Abby moved in for her turn. And the little man did not disappoint….
I bet his name is Romeo or Casanova – he has obviously done this before!
After we visited with Romeo for a bit we headed home – the girls refreshed from our break and Emma and I having a giggle over the interspecies love story!

Haha! Oh how cute! Reminds me of the Budweiser commercial from the Super Bowl last night:)

That is the cutest thing ever!!! I saw the Budweiser commercial, too, and it is very similar – only yours was not staged!!!! I am so glad you got to have a good ride with Emma. You guys definitely need to enjoy your mild temperatures for all us northerners.

How adorable! Romeo is a player for sure. It looks like you had a wonderful and relaxing ride once you got past the fish thing. Eeek!

Katie and Julie, I actually did not see the Bud commercial so I had no idea there was something similar going on in the world. I looked it up and it was very cute. But I think Tiny’s boy was much cuter, personally!
Morningbray, I think Romeo is surely a player! I wonder how many horses he kisses every day?

That is SOOO cute! Now watch out for mad cow disease..JUST KIDDING!!!
It was totally like the Bud commercial!

You are the Michelle version of Equitrekking!! This was like one of the Bud commercials during the Super Bowl last night but that was with a goat.
Wonder what’s up with the dead fish?

Michelle – I completely love Chris Cornell!!! I commented over on mine, but I didn’t know if you would see it. I use a lot of his lyrics from Soundgarden for my post titles! His songs are always in my head and that one was playing in my head as I was taking the photos of Sovey in the snow and sun!

Creepy about all the dead fish. Hope nothing was poisonous in the lake.
sMOOch! Too stinkin’ cute! lol! I had a boyfriend in high school that lookd like him. A big ol football player. Same hair and build, too. *snort*!
One summer I took my llamas out for a long trek and we walked past a field with two handsome geldings and they fell in love with my female llama. They were smooching, grooming, nibbling and giving my llama girl horse hugs. It was cute, but it started to get uncomfortable. I know they were geldings, but things were getting hot and heavy. lol!I posted about it on my blog back in 2008. Tons of photos. Love those interspecies relationships. hehe!

Michelle – Sorry to take over your blog talking off topic about Chris Cornell! How did we not make this connection when we met? The post before the one I posted about meeting you is called “No one sings like you anymore” from Black Hole Sun. Also, the post before that one lists Maizie’s cd choices. She picked Fell on Black Days as her second song – that is my all time favorite – isn’t that funny for such an optimistic person, but I think that is what CC is talking about…just when it is all going so well… and if you click my “music I am listening to now” I think there is some CC in there. I change that list all the time. I have to check my other posts for more. I know I was going to use something from Burden in my Hand but I changed it because it was too dark.

How cute!!! What did Tiny and Emma think about it? Were they into Romeo, too!?
michelle - February 10, 2010 at 9:02 am
Kristen, mad cow disease that’s so funny! I’ll definitely stay on the lookout for that!

Arlene, I don’t know what’s up with the fish. It’s kind of distressing actually… I don’t think the photos accurately represented the number of dead fish on that beach. The whole shore was littered with them. You have to wonder what was so deadly – Emma said in all the years she’s lived there, she’s never seen anything like that before. Most distressing is that water body joins up with the St. John’s River – which is a source of drinking water for a lot of Floridians, plus it’s a big manatee hot spot in winter months. Scary stuff…..

Lisa, I’m not too sure those curls would have worked on a HS football player! They looked a little bovine-specific to me! Thanks for the giggle though – I can’t get that image out of my head!
I’m hoping I have some time today to search through your archives and locate your interspecies love story! Sounds funny, and knowing you, there are some great photo accompaniments!

Hey Julie, everyone that knows me soon discovers that you can talk about CC ANYTIME, ANYWHERE and it’s all good! I really am not sure how we never made this connection before. I mean, I noticed the Soundgarden in your playlists, but you have lots of great music and I just thought you have good taste. But very few people actually know songs like Sunshower, and I have to say your coolness factor just exponentially increased! (not that you needed any help in that department anyway!) I’m even more shocked that I never picked up on the lyrics titles before…..I guess I really wasn’t paying attention well enough!
michelle - February 10, 2010 at 9:27 am
Oh Emma thought it was hysterically funny, as did I! Tiny was her typically cool self. I don’t think she was quite as enamored with him as he was with her, but she certainly enjoyed the attention!

This. Is. Fabulous! Thank you so much for sharing. I love the photos, so lucky you had your camera.
